TXStatestudentsMeet Texas State University: The Bobcats.

The Net Impact undergrad chapter at Texas State University joined the Green Impact Campaign (GIC) in early 2012. And within months of joining, the student-led team brought the campaign into their community and onto their campus and started making a real impact.

The student chapter began their campaign efforts by partnering with the local chamber of commerce and a local economic development organization, the Greater San Marcos Partnership. The partnerships helped to get the word out to local businesses about their Campaign and about the free energy surveys being offered by the student volunteers. Within weeks, the team was out conducting surveys for interested businesses and receiving praise from business owners and local press.

Amy Madison, President & CEO Greater San Marcos Partnership
“It is truly exciting to see students working on a project that helps improve the bottom line for local businesses and, at the same time, is sustainable over the longhaul. Members of the chamber and the Greater San Marcos Partnership stand to gain and the students have the opportunity to interact with the business leaders and learn how they operate. It’s definitely a win-win.”

The student team then turned their focus to their own campus and worked with university staff to schedule and conduct energy surveys for nearly half of the buildings on campus. At the end of the year, Texas State’s undergrad Net Impact chapter was given numerous awards and community recognition for their involvement with GIC, including Net Impact Chapter of the Year and nine Texas State University Boko Awards.
